One of the theories for the cause of ASD is increased white matter – too many synaptic connections; I can definitely see, especially with the information from this presentation, how this could directly relate to seizure disorders. I never realized that epilepsy was so prevalent in individuals with ASD. In all the information readily available in mainstream media, I wonder why this is not more common knowledge?

Great job, It is estimated that as many as 1/3 of individuals with autism spectrum disorder also have epilepsy. Epilepsy is a brain disorder marked by recurring seizures, or convulsions.
Thank you for putting this presentation together! I found it interesting that research has suggested that seizures experienced by individuals who have ASD may be a result of brain abnormalities, specifically with neuron development/activity. I can see this especially if they are overactive. One thing I learned was that there were uncommon symptoms that I had never heard of before like sleep disturbances or sleepiness, as well as unexplained irritability and aggression. I would be curious though as to whether or not there may be a relationship between these uncommon symptoms, particularly sleep disturbances, as potentially helping to explain one of the reasons as to why sleep disturbance is so common within individuals with ASD.

I just learned that epilepsy originate from genetic origin, as well as it is associated somehow with autism. I am interested in learning more about the topic as well as why children over 10 have more chances in developing epilepsy. I would like also to know more about treatments and how to help individuals with ASD and epilepsy.

What I learned form you presentation is that – the side effects of drugs of epilepsy should be kept in mind while prescribe it/ consuming it; development of epilepsy (possible at any age); common and uncommon symptoms.

I think one of the most interesting things I took from this presentation was that epilepsy is associated with lower cognitive ability and poorer language functioning. I assume it is because of whatever is going on in the brain but it would be interesting to know more
Very good presentation. The topic was explained well and clear. I learned that individuals with ASD experience seizures or have epilepsy and that it is difficult to treat or resolve after a length of time in individuals with ASD. I would like to learn more about treatment for epilepsy with individuals with ASD. It definitely seems difficult and interesting at the same time. Thank you.
it is unknown to me that epilepsy and ASD have a common origin in the genes. and adults with ASD are more prone to epilepsy.

Since epilepsy is common cmorbidity in ASD. this presentation helps to understand how medical help is needed to treat this to focus on behavioural problems of the child
Hi, great presentation! the most interesting fact I learned from this presentation is that epilepsy diagnose more in adults than in children so its prevalence more in adults. One more interesting fact is the gene, both epilepsy and ASD shares same gene. I agree more research is needed to be done on this topic.

I agree with Karla that you all explained the symptoms of seizures (both common and uncommon) extremely well. I had no idea that the prevalence was so strong! I agree that more research needs to be done on the topic. You covered all the required aspects and this presentation was very informative.
WOW! I knew Autism and Seizures were related however I didn't realize all the different symptoms. Which really makes me question Audrey. So So interesting. I loved this presentation.
Great presentation!! I didn't know that epilepsy can develop at any age or that there was a significant overlap in the genes linked to epilepsy and ASD. Also, I learned that children over 10 have 2.5 times more likelihood of being diagnosed with epilepsy. I found it really interesting when you talked about epilepsy and how it affects the brain, is there a specific region of the brain that is more affected? Or is it just the neurons throughout all regions of the brain?

It is was interesting to know that Autism and epilepsy share a common genetic origin. From your notes, I have learned that the cause of epilepsy may be from brain abnormalities associated with Autism and so far few treatments such as pharmacological treatment, surgery, and vagal nerve stimulation are available. However, more research is required on treatment. Overall, well-presented and very informative. Thank you!

Great presentation! I really enjoyed learning more about ASD and epilepsy. One thing I found really interesting was when you mentioned that its important to see the effects of epilepsy medication and ASD symptoms medications. I agree with this and think that its really important because side effects of drug interactions could be quite harmful for any individual.
One thing that I learnt from this presentation was that the cause of epilepsy may be from brain abnormalities associated with autism.
