More than 12,300 marijuana cigarettes confiscated by Lancaster County deputies

Members of the Criminal Interdiction Unit for the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office confiscated more than 430 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Thursday.

Deputies stopped a box truck with California license plates near mile marker 396 on Interstate 80 at approximately 3:25 p.m. for following too closely and an improper lane change, Lancaster Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said.

A deputy approached the box truck and reported he could smell a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle, Houchin said.

The driver provided consent to search the box truck, and deputies found three wooden crates containing 435 pounds of marijuana, 12,330 marijuana cigarettes, about 13 pounds of THC edibles and 5,384 THC cartridges, Houchin said.

Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies took photos of some of the marijuana and THC products they confiscated during a Thursday traffic stop on Interstate 80.

The driver was released because deputies did not have enough evidence to prove he knew what he was hauling, according to Houchin, who said the investigation is ongoing. He said there was a string of paperwork showing the driver was a subcontractor for one company that was hired by another company that was hired by another company.
