Youth leader accused of giving 15-year-old girl marijuana, sexually coercing her

MOUNT CLEMENS, MI — A 29-year-old Clinton Township man who worked as a church youth leader is facing charges of criminal sexual conduct after he allegedly coerced a girl into having sex with him. Luis Mendoza was arraigned in 42-1 District Court on the charges that stem from a June 27 incident involving Mendoza and a 15-year-old girl where is accused of giving the girl marijuana and then sexually assaulting her.

Mendoza is charged with one count each of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The third-degree CSC charge is a 15-year felony in Michigan.

“Today’s arraignment underscores the gravity of the alleged crimes committed against a vulnerable 15-year-old girl. We are committed to seeking justice for the victim, holding the accused accountable, and ensuring the safety of our community, particularly its most vulnerable members,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Bond was set at $250,000 cash/surety and if Mendoza is released from jail, he is ordered to wear a GPS tether. He must also submit to drug and alcohol testing, have no contact with minors and avoid any church youth activities.

Mendoza is set to return to court on Nov. 27 for a probable cause conference.
