Over 30 pounds of marijuana seized from passenger at Roanoke/Blacksburg Regional Airport

ROANOKE, Va. (WRIC) — Over 30 pounds of marijuana were seized from a passenger flying into Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport in Roanoke.

According to Virginia State Police, the suspect attempted to smuggle 33 pounds of marijuana in two suitcases. A police narcotics detection K-9 from the Star City Drug and Violent Crime Task Force alerted officers when inspecting the baggage.

The suspect’s identity has not been released due to the ongoing criminal investigation.

The Star City Drug and Violent Crime Task Force is a joint police force comprised of members of the Roanoke City Police Department, Salem Police Department, Roanoke County Police Department and Virginia State Police.
